Nature Journaling Autumn Leaves

  • Online Madison, WI (map)

Adult Education Class: Nature Journaling Autumn Leaves

Sunday, October 1, 1:00-3:00pm Central
Held online (Zoom)
Taught by Amy Schleser

Registration is now open to all!

In this online class, you’ll learn how to create a nature journal page by observing, sketching, and writing about autumn leaves. This can be a powerful way to notice new things and to wonder more deeply about nature.

Before class, you’ll collect colorful tree leaves from your neighborhood. During class you’ll trace their shape, sketch their venation and other features, write about what you’re noticing, and of course record what colors you see. You’ll also practice being intentionally curious about what you’re noticing, writing down your questions. Together, you and your classmates will strive to become deeply curious about leaves. You’ll aim to notice things about leaves that you’ve never noticed before.

Your instructor will be Amy Schleser, an artist and science educator living in Madison. Amy has developed exhibitions at The Field Museum and currently creates science curriculum for elementary schools. You can see more examples of her nature journal art on Instagram at @science.art.amy.
