This event is postponed until this summer. We hope you will join in!
Accessibility is a crucial consideration for getting out in nature. One single elevated step can prevent a wheelchair user’s access to a hiking trail, while a lack of railings could pose a risk for folks who are blind or have low vision. These are just a few considerations that can influence someone’s safety and comfort, but how can we know what a place is like before getting there?
Enter the Birdability Map, created by Birdability and National Audubon. This crowd-sourced tool provides important accessibility information for trails and natural areas. and relies on the work of local communities to upload information about each location. You can be part of the movement to make birding and nature more accessible to everybody!
In our workshop, we’ll go over the Birdability checklist together, work on a practice site review, and talk about tips and tricks so you’ll be prepared to complete an accessibility assessment on your own. In-person event is limited to 25 people.
Workshop leader: Kaitlin Svabek, communications coordinator (ksvabek@madisonaudubon.org)
What to bring: We will share a digital copy of the Birdability checklist ahead of time with all attendees. Paper copies will be available at the in-person component, but please feel free to bring your own laptop, tablet, or smartphone along if you would prefer to work through the digital copy during the event.
Event presented by Madison Audubon in partnership with Access Ability Wisconsin and Outdoors Access 4 All!
