Thinking about attempting a prairie planting or managing an existing restoration? Then this workshop, held through Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin and taught by Madison Audubon’s Goose Pond Sanctuary team is for you!

Enjoy a wagon ride with hikes through Madison Audubon’s Goose Pond Sanctuary. We will discuss all aspects of prairie restoration and management including plant species selection, securing seed, site preparation and planting, interplanting/seeding, prescribed burning, invasive species removal, rare species, wildlife usage, and grant opportunities along with associated challenges and techniques. Goose Pond Sanctuary has 500 acres of restored mesic prairie. The property contains a wide variety of wildlife including nesting birds including Eastern Meadowlarks, Dickcissels, Sedge Wrens, and Northern Harriers, badgers, butterflies, moths, nine species of bumblebees, and tiger salamanders. 

Both novice and advanced prairie stewards welcome.

This six-hour hands on workshop will be taught by Mark Martin, Susan-Foote Martin,Graham Steinhauer, and Emma Raasch, who are part of the Goose Pond Sanctuary team and Travis Wilder Pheasants Forever Biologist with the Natural Rescources Conservation Service.
