Bald Eagle Nest Watch—for independent volunteers outside of our program areas

Thank you for your interest in participating in Bald Eagle Nest Watch! Bald Eagles nest in every county in Wisconsin, but we don’t have partners and programs in each county. If you live in an area where we don’t currently have a Bald Eagle Nest Watch program, and you have a nest near you that you can safely monitor independently each week of the nesting season, you can receive training and participate as an independent nest watcher!

What does it meant to be an independent nest watcher?

  1. You share with us the GPS coordinates of the nest you know about and can safely monitor each week. We keep nest sites confidential.

  2. You participate in training with BENW staff and volunteers to have a solid understanding of Bald Eagle nesting ecology and the program requirements.

  3. You monitor your nest once a week for an hour each week from February through the time of fledging (usually June or July).

  4. You submit your observations to the BENW online data form weekly, and be in communication with Badgerland Bird Alliance staff and volunteers about any questions or concerns you have.

We would love to get to you know and document how the eagle nest near you does this nesting season! Please fill out the form below to sign up as an independent nest watcher, or contact Brenna Marsicek (bmarsicek@madisonaudubon.org) with questions.
